DAYTONA BEACH. FL (Feb 26, 2010) I arrived on Main Street about 8:30 AM and you would not have thought that this was the beginning of Daytona's 69th Annual Bike Week. You could have rolled a bowling ball down Main Street and not hit a motorcycle, car, bus or anything else that would be in the streets at that hour. I did speak with one of the regulars on Main Street and he said that it had really been dead for the past couple of days, more than likely thanks to the severe weather up in the northern states. | |
On a more positive note, throughout the day bikeweek got off to a good start and it even became t-shirt weather for a few hours in the early afternoon. This really is one of the coldest Daytona Bike Weeks that I have ever attended. I kinda liked it though as it did keep the crowds down to a bearable size and I didn't get stopped in pedestrian traffic at all. There were all the usual sights, with motorcycles ranging from brand new store built to the backyard homemade rat bike(the latter are my favorite). Johns Rock and Ride on the east end of Main Street, who has been located in the same spot for about 30 years this year donated 4 benches outside of his store where the weary person can sit and rest. |  |
If you are familiar with Main Street, finding some where to sit where you are not obligated to buy something is a rare site. A new additon this year was the "Bikini Barber Shop" on the west end of Main Street. With all the photos I took, only two people asked me not to photograph them, and thats ok, everyones privacy is their own. I did go into one gated venue on Main Street where the bar girls requested a tip to photograph them. Here is a tip for those girls: I am a professional photographer who normally charges over two hundred dollars for a 1 hour shoot, if your picture is posted on my site it is a courtesy so you may get more exposure for FREE! Wow, that was quite a rant! |

I do know the police were kind of happy with the weather as it kept a lot of skin exposure to a minimum. People were bundled up most of the day in gloves, hats, and face shields. I hope everyone in attendance had a good time in spite of the weather. I will return next Friday and Saturday to continue the coverage in Daytona Beach. As with any of my galleries, feel free to copy the photos for your personal use. Due to recent abuse of my photo policy, If you add them to any social website (Facebook, Twitter, my Space, etc), limit it to a maximum of 5 photos and give credit to Cycleshotz.com with a link back to my site.
